I'm working on a story idea...right now sorta a grab bag of ideas I'm trying to string together into a comprehensible narrative.

Basically, the Slayers will learn of attacks on nobility in different kingdoms. At first, it will look like locals with personal beefs with the local nobility but overtime it will be discovered that a more powerful enemy is manipulating the dissatisfied groups to do its will.

Group 1. In Zoana, a religious cult believes Queen Martina is a heretic and attacks the royal family. The former king Moros is seriously injured. Martina & Zangulus are trying to get to the bottom of things. I wanted to have Vrumugun (the real guy) make an appearance and help Zangulus out. He's here to warn Zangulus that someone has been snooping around Eris' former hangouts...and obviously looking for something. Vrumugun we find out has been on a crusade of sorts trying to atone for the evil done by his copies and Zangulus has been helping him.

Group 2 (Seyruun): The kingdom is in mourning. Old King Eldred has died. Amelia and Zelgadis find evidence that the old king might not have died of natural causes, depite his old age and frail health. I don't know who the local baddies are going to be in this section yet. I just know I wanted to do some Amelia, Zelgadis and Phil stuff. And I really wanted to have Naga show up....

Group 3 (Ruvinagald): Inspector Wizer is very busy. He's trying to look into a corruption case and stop sabotage by anti-tech "Luddhites". This is going to be an important chapter as it has to introduce the main villains, a brother-sister pair that are illigitimate kids of Gioconda. As bastards, they have an understanable grudge against blue-blood nobility. The question is, who is the big baddie behind them?

Group 4 (Taforashia and ruins of Old Sairaag): Lina and Gourry, Syphiel and probably Pokota too. We learn earlier in Seyruun about a prophecy mentioning a city reborn three times but only once refounded. The heroes figure it this is referring to Phibrizzo restoring the city (2nd rebirth) and Taforashia (founded by Sairaag colonists (3rd rebirth) after Sairaag is rebuilt (1st rebirth) after the historical fight between Zanaffar and the Sword of Light wielder.

I'm not sure who the big baddie needs to be. Definately need to work in a powerful monster/monsters to challenge everyone. And I'd like to use Xellos but I'm not sure exactly what his role should be since I don't want to carbon copy what the last few seasons have done. If I use him I want to use him a little differently....

Another idea I had was to use a female Zuuma, maybe a girlfriend of Abel who adopted the Zuuma persona to get misguided revenge?

Anyone have an ideas?

Wellllll, since it seems you're using the anime continuity, might I suggest Dynast Grausherra as your big bad?

The sudden and unexplained demise or injury of various nobles around the continent would have each kingdom on edge and leery of its neighbors—exactly the kind of atmosphere the most militant minded of the Five Retainers would need in order to trigger a new continental war with minimal effort.

I don't want to suggest too much and thus end up creating most of the story (I'd like to see what you come up with yourself), but there's something to think about. If not Dynast, there are always his subordinates, or even Xelloss. He is prone to get 'rented out,' after all.

It's fun thinking about a story but I really don't know if I can whip it into a readable state. Gonna keep brainstorming though just in case!

Kinda like my old D&D adventures. I'd have pretty good ideas and totally ruin the games trying to dungeonmaster them!

Aw man, haha.

I find storywriting significantly easier than DMing, especially in a live game. Those skills are only something you can develop with a lot of practice. Writing, too, but I think there are fewer skills you have to get really good at for that.

I had some more ideas. I think I'd like to focus the story more on Seyruun and not spread things all over creation. My notion right now is that the ghost of Booley hires an assassin to take out Phil and his family at eldred's funeral. Christopher is killed amd Phil and Amelia are hurt very badly. Naga (gracia) has to take the throne. I wanted Zelgadis there so he could butt heads with Naga. I also wanted him realizing his feelings for Amelia as she's healing. So plenty of good potential for scenes with Zel/Amelia and Phil/Naga.

I had thought of writing in a complication where the assassin frames Martina and Zangulus for the attacks but I don't know...

so sorta a mystery right now more than anything else. What I wanted to do with the systery them was be a little meta-fiction-y with it and have Amelia reading a mystery novel while she's healing up. So when Zelgadis comes to visit and update her on the investigation I can play Amelia as armchair detective, Zelgadis as gopher.

I don't know what to do with Lina and Gourry in the story yet either.

ok, I have an idea for what's going on with Lina and Gourry. They are headed back to Seyruun from Lina (or Gourry)'s hometown aboard an airship! The ship is attacked en route by what outside observers will swear is a dragon. Obviously this is going to cause some problems with the gold dragons as they know nothing about this.

What has actually occured is a terrorist action by a earth-themed magical guild. It seems the airship was built with the cooperation of air, water and fire guild members but the earth guys were left out. So they built a Dragon golem and had it attack the airship to cause trouble.

So there's the sidetrek that Lina and Gourry will be on in my story so they don't hog all the attention back in Seyruun.
And with the dragons being framed I have an excuse to work in Filia. And if Xellos follows Filia....

This sounds promising! My only recommendation is to read some other works of fiction and look for ideas on how others have written about similar plots, if you haven't already, that is. and if you are bringing in technical things like air ships, be sure you read up on them a bit too, it adds to the realism...
